The film tells the story of Yang Ye, who died in battle in Youzhou. After his death, the emperor bestowed the Nine-Ring Golden Dagger, a treasure of the Yang family, to the Song Dynasty. However, it fell into the hands of the Liao Kingdom. In their grief and anger, Yang's eighth and ninth sisters went to the Liao Kingdom to reclaim the precious dagger. On their journey back, they encountered Jiao Guangpu, a displaced general from the Song Dynasty. Initially strangers, they later joined forces to safely return the treasure to their homeland.
When Hong Kong is rocked by multiple gruesome murders, the police forms a task force to investigate. Jun, once a brilliant detective who suffered a mental breakdown, begins his own investigation. Eventually, the police learn that the murder victims are all suspects of cold cases being rubbed out by a figure known as "The Sleuth". Now, Jun and a detective from the task force are on a race against time to beat the brutal killer at its own game.
In the spring of 1931, after the Communist Party successfully set up many communication stations in China, they set their sight on Western Europe and assigned two of their agents ”Asthray'” and “Porcelain” to Paris. From there on, the stories of secret deal, hidden betrayal, questionable death, forbidden love, and brotherhood among the military and a prominent family’s members were unraveled.
